Light of the World Christian Fellowship, Grand Cayman is an organization that seeks to edify the nation with the good news of Jesus Christ. Our church consists of a team of Christian believers whose aim is to promote the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ, locally, regionally and internationally. Our primary objective is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in a language that every man can understand. As Warriors of Christ we will not be intimidated by our limitations nor frustrated by our fears but we will continue to fight the good fight of faith and endeavour to pursue the fulfillment of the great commission.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…”

Matthew 28:19-20
— Jesus, the Messiah

History

Faced with a momentous challenge, a group of Christian believers sought the Lord in fasting and prayer in June 1999. Following the example of the early church, we met in homes and continued steadfastly in prayer until our homes were unable to accommodate the saints. We sought other facilities to gather for worship including community centres and town halls and eventually we were led to a rented facility in George Town upstairs the Horizon Auto building. We trusted God wholeheartedly and experienced His blessings in innumerable ways. All that we required to establish the church gradually fell into place. On July 7, 1999 our church was officially granted permission to operate as a non-profit organization in the Cayman Islands.

In the absence of our leader, Bishop Desmond Whittaker, our pursuit continued, and ninety persons who were desirous of worshipping the Lord in spirit and truth met together on the first Sunday of July 1999 at the new location. Our hearts burned within us as we worshiped and praised God in an environment that was charged with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Youth Minister Brian Morris assumed the responsibility of delivering the Word of God and continued to faithfully fulfill this mandate during the Bishop’s absence.

Having been in contact with Archbishop Dr. Jimmy Lee Smith and his wife Pastor Ruth Smith, of Light of the World Interdenominational International Association of Decatur, Georgia, Bishop Whittaker continued to seek their advice and leadership. Eventually our church became a member of the association. We trusted God for His divine leading and worked untiringly and unitedly. Over the years the congregation experienced growth numerically and spiritually.

As time progressed we had to be shepherded remotely by our present Pastor, Bishop Desmond Whittaker, due to extenuating circumstances. He came in at intervals as often as possible, and he consistently challenged us to be steadfast and unmovable. Though it was a difficult arrangement to deal with, members of the congregation remained committed to the ministry. Eventually the breakthrough we desired, for our Bishop to be present on a more permanent basis, came to fruition.

Today our church continues to experience tremendous growth numerically and spiritually under the anointed leadership of Bishop Desmond Whittaker.
